Mike Snow - Common Ground Interview

I talked to my cousin who is a Jehovas Witness. He denies the divinity of Christ that is portrayed in the scriptures. He believes that Jesus is the real God and that the Bible specifically says that. He gave me one reading to look at to show his point, John 20:28. I didn't read it because I have already read articles that show contradicting points.

I found it funny that he pointed me towards a passage in the Bible, almost telling me to explore the option of becoming a Jehovas Witness. He knows I am Catholic, and he knows I have not always supported his decision to become a Jehovas Witness. So, when I asked him about how Jehovas don't believe in all the holidays, he didn't really answer me. He wouldn't explain why he couldn't celebrate his birthday and Christmas, and why he did celebrate weddings and anniversaries. I asked him about his wedding, which I attended, and he said it was exactly the type of wedding he had always wanted.

However, when I went it was the strangest things in the world. The JOP who married the couple said that the man was supposed to run the house. He previewed their life to come by telling everyone that the husband would be out in the working world supporting his wife and children. It was like the Jehovas don't expect the woman to work, and all the decision making and power will come from the husbands side.

Finally, I asked my cousin about possible children in the future. He told me that he expected to have a few kids, and also will teach them about the Jehovas Witness. This whole interview with my cousin was very weird, but very informative. I have read in places that the Jehovas marry early and have a lot of kids because they want to expand the population of the Jehovas Witness.
